After the outstanding experience at Chat Sauvage, Alex took us on a little bit of any excursion where we followed him through tiny towns and villages until we arrived at the river’s edge and our ferry trip across the river to the Rheinhessen region. He had made arrangements with this vineyard, Adams Wein (adamswein.de) as well – midweek they are typically not open to the public, especially in the Fall. Here they are also growing wines that are not typical of the area – Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Blac and Pinot Gris. If memory serves me, the winemaker, also a woman, has a science background and employs that in her winemaking. Rather than just planting the grapes and hoping for the best, she strategically matches the grapes to the soil contents to get the best from both. These wines were, though more rustic (non fined or filtered) than Chat Sauvage, they were elegant and flavourful. We managed to bring home three bottles of their wine, although sadly I didn’t take one picture of our tasting experience. ☹
